Essential Gear

You will need a variety of clothing and equipment for the different climate zones of Kilimanjaro, from the hot and humid rainforest to the freezing, arctic conditions at the summit. We provide a detailed packing list, but key items include:

  • Footwear: Broken-in, waterproof hiking boots with good ankle support.

  • Clothing: Moisture-wicking base layers, insulating layers (fleece and down jacket) and waterproof/windproof outer shell.

  • Sleeping Bag: A quality four-season sleeping bag rated for temperatures as low as -20°C (-4°F).

  • Headgear: A warm beanie, a sun hat, and a headlamp with spare batteries.

  • Accessories: Trekking poles, sunglasses, a hydration system or water bottles and a first-aid kit.
